Comfort is a Dream Killer

Comfort is a dream killer. It will keep you rooted somewhere you do not want to be or lock you up as you use energy to get started. This is why we must focus intently on where we want to be, regardless of the consequences, and be willing to suffer for our success. It is not that suffering is good, but that perseverance through discomfort often gives us the destination we desired.

Perhaps a way of thinking of it is a mentality that says, “I don’t know the future, but I’m fully investing my energy into everything right now.” We must be fully present and focused on what we are doing without fully committing our souls to one thing. We must be willing to change. No matter the job or situation, be prepared for change. This is a thought process that serves an important purpose, because no matter the circumstance you can do your best work and still prepare for the future. It allows you to look back in confidence. Whatever it was you wanted becomes unimportant, because you did your best.

Use your work and your life to your optimum level. Invest all you can into living a meaningful life, but just as you root yourself in learning and growing, be prepared to be uprooted. Oftentimes it is when we have become our most comfortable that we are called to the next opportunity. Do not ignore these callings. Be pleased with the comfort, because it is, well, comforting. But do not mistake comfort for the dream life, because it is only part of the beautiful picture. When life calls you to discomfort, follow through with what you know is right to do.

I hope that you live your dreams to the fullest possible measure. I also hope you do not fall into the culture’s calling of comfort and convenience, but chase intentionally and enthusiastically after what you know is right to do with your life. Go live purposefully through whatever circumstance life has you in, and seek the reward that comes through investing in a life well-lived.
