How To Love Your Life

We all want to have a well-lived life. None of us desire an ending where we waste our time, we want one that we not only used it well, but enjoyed it. We want to love life.
Unlike the typical response of our culture, however, I’m not here to tell you that the answer is inside of you. It’s not to do whatever makes you feel good or what makes you happy. The answer is not even originated in what you do, but in who you are. Here’s what I mean:
“Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.*”
If you want to make the most of your days, you must intentionally become someone with God, not without him. Namely, the words and the actions that you live by make up the totality of your life. They determine your level of enjoyment, in a way. Here’s how:
1. Keep yourself from evil.
Keeping yourself and your tongue from evil can seem like such vague statements. How do you apply such a phrase? You know what evil is and you turn from it, but more importantly, you fill your heart, mind, tongue, and soul with what is good. What you are feeding yourself with will come out eventually. Every movie, song, book, or other form of media is put inside your brain when you consume it. You might not act on it, but you process it eventually. Do not expect to consume negativity and speak with encouragement. What you are filled with will come out in the words you speak and the actions you live by. If you want to love life, keep yourself from evil.
2. Watch what you say.
The tongue is the rudder of your soul – it directs your body and tells you how to feel. Your tongue can encourage the damaged and break down the mighty. What we say impacts us and the people we know. While there should always be a priority in what you do, what you say is right behind it. Be a person whose words are powerful, because they are thoughtful, wise, and encouraging. Sometimes the less you speak, the more powerful your words are. If you want to love life, you should watch what you say.
3. Live life by the Word of God.
From the outside, the Bible might look like an outdated book with no relevance to modern issues, but on the inside, it comes alive and speaks right where you are. When you read the Word of God, it can transform your life. And like we’re all searching for, it will make you love life because it is filling you with the best possible spirit. Let God’s words and truth be the rudder that guides you, not the wisdom of the world. Love life by living with a value foundation of God, filling your mind with the best, and living in response to it. Live in righteousness, speak in truth, and seek peace by pursuing it.
The answer to a wonderful life is often clearer than we want it to be. While it might seem more fun to have the answers appear like a treasure hunt, we already have the treasure. If you want to love life, keep yourself from evil, watch what you say, and live life by the Word of God.
