Make Your Mornings Matter

This morning you woke up, and whether or not you hit the snooze or you jumped out of bed with excitement, you got up. You made it to the start of the day. Mondays are often the week’s awkward friend – we don’t like to see them and we pretend we don’t know them. But they exist, week after week. So why not make them matter, just like any other morning?

The way you frame your morning can change your world. It’s not just that waking up early gives you some time to get ready and avoids the mad rush of arriving to work on time. Waking up early allows you to frame your day in a way that you want it. You create your own perspective, and with a positive perspective, everything can change.

Think about a time you woke up early and did something you really enjoyed. Even if you don’t typically wake up early, there has to be one time – you watched the sunrise, walked around your neighborhood, worked on your dream business, or simply meditated. It probably did something to you – it gave you joy. It doesn’t always give you happiness, because some mornings are just tough. But when you start your day with a joyful accomplishment, you start it with energy. Your morning switches from being something you begrudgingly have to do to something that you sincerely look forward to. It’s one of the mistakes of a morning routine advice: don’t choose something that you have to do, choose something you want to do. The joy will propel you forward. It’s not an end all be all, because you may still be tired, but I guarantee you that you won’t regret it if wake up and complete something meaningful.

If you’re disciplined every morning, take this as a reminder to persevere in your accomplishments. If you don’t have a morning routine, wake up earlier tomorrow and make the most of it, even if it’s only 15 minutes earlier. When you have the space to reflect and accomplish something you love, you’ll keep doing it. Now go and maximize your mornings, not just for your morning, but to maximize your life.
