The Blessed Awkwardness of Change

Isn’t it interesting how change can feel so icky and uncomfortable? Whether it’s moving to a new place, starting a new job, or meeting a new friend, there’s sometimes an awkwardness to it. Even if it’s a change that we are excited about, we have to learn how to adapt. Whenever we are faced with a new environment or way of living, it takes adjustment, and the irony is that the adjustment often turns into something that we enjoy more than what we had previously. Change makes us better people.
There’s been times in my life that I’ve almost been addicted to change. It can be unhealthy to blow up everything in our lives just because we want a new environment, but most of the time, it’s exactly what we need. When it’s all said and done, change means growth, and it is part of what makes life so meaningful. As Tony Robbins has said, “Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change.” Through the crazy changes in life, both intentional and circumstantial, we grow to be older, wiser, and different people.
Think of the changes you go through when you want to experience growth. It can be as small as switching up your breakfast routine or connecting with new coworkers. Whenever you look at life through a lens of searching for growth opportunities, everything looks bigger and brighter. The possibilities are endless when you embrace a bit of awkwardness and uncomfortable situations. If you’re willing to change, you’re willing to grow.
