When There's No One To Count On

“Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Ps. 73:25-26).
We’ve all been there. You feel like you can’t count on anyone. Everyone around you feels distant and unsupportive, and whether it’s true or not, you feel completely alone. But there is one person that is always there, and that is God. When everyone else (including yourself) feels too human, broken, and imperfect, there is a God who loves and cares about you. His love is eternal, his word is true, and his grace is sufficient. God is there to lift you up when you need encouragement, convict you when you deserve it and love you without bounds.
Unfortunately, one barrier often stands in the way: people can be afraid to be lonely. It is as if admitting loneliness is damaging to their reputation. But to admit loneliness is simply to admit your humanity. We have all and do experience loneliness, even in the midst of great company. When we let go of our pride and admit that we need someone else, we open up the opportunity for connection, both to our God and to other people. Because no matter how independent and driven you are, you need relationships.
You may not even need this message right now. But you may find yourself a few months or years away thinking there’s no one in the world around you. When that happens, remember who is there, and who’s with you. When you feel like there’s no one to count on, all you need to do is look up.
