You Don't Need Anything Else
We are all searching for truth. We demand answers to many of the challenging questions of life, and even though they can’t all be answered, we always desire for everything to make sense. We want a foundation, a source of knowledge and wisdom, that can lay the groundwork for our lives.
But we look to places that do not satisfy us with a solution. And with a world that offers a copious amount of information - far more than we could learn in a lifetime - there’s nothing that could stop us from endlessly searching. Yet the answer is still not to stop searching, because the truth is important. The truth we should adhere to is the truth of God’s Word – the Bible.
Read any articles online or people uneducated about the Bible and you will find some crazy responses to this book. To be fair, you will read some crazy stories inside of the book if you’ve never picked it up. But I’ve read many of these responses and have not guarded myself from the opinions of atheists and other religions. And while I understand their hesitation, I am completely convinced that it is the truth of the world and that it is God’s written word.
The Bible is the handbook to life. It is 100% sufficient to carry us through life because it is the Word of God spoken to us for our every need. There is both knowledge and wisdom in it, providing a practical way of life that we can follow to find the truth we are looking for. This is not to say that other sources of information do not matter. Just from my own life, consider this: I read one personal development book about every two weeks. I listen to 5+ podcasts every week. I constantly practice the discipline of learning in any format I can, but none has ever been as powerful as what the Word of God offers in the Bible. It encourages, challenges, equips, and teaches you to do everything you require (see 2 Timothy 3:16-17).
You do not need anything else. Do not fall into the trap that it is the Bible plus something else. No, the Word of God is sufficient in of itself. It provides the answers, the knowledge, the wisdom, and the way of life we need on this earth. If you’re reading this and you don’t know much about the Bible, I’d encourage you to pick it up and start reading, one small chapter or verse after another. And if you’re reading this having gotten distracted or lost in the wisdom of the world, I hope that you seek again the truth inside the Bible. Whatever stage of life you are in, I pray that you are reminded of this as you try to figure out how to live life: you don’t need anything else.
